Dev (Aamir Khan), a casanova and an ambitious painter in debt, agrees to marry the daughter of a wealthy tycoon. A music teacher Priya (Manisha Koirala) on the other hand, is about to marry a man who’s been there for her in times of adversity. However, when Priya and Dev meet on a cruise, they fall head over heels in love with each other. They decide to sort out their respective love lives and careers, and meet each other six months later to get married. But on the fateful day, Priya does not keep her end of the bargain which leaves Dev heartbroken and devastated.
