Indu (Shabana Azmi) and DK (Naseeruddin Shah) live a peaceful, prosperous life with their two affectionate daughters. One day, DK receives word that he has an illegitimate son born from a brief fling he had with a woman, who is now dead. The nine-year-old boy, Rahul (Jugal Hansraj) needs a home. Over the objections of Indu, who is devastated to learn of her husband's unfaithfulness, the boy comes to stay with them. While Rahul tries to find a place in the new home, Indu is caught in a dilemma. She can neither be hostile towards the innocent naïve child nor can she bear to look at him, a tangible reminder of her husband’s infidelity. The movie gracefully captures the beautiful complications and fragility of human relationships.
